The Girl Pow-R empowerment message is central to their new single, Never Let Go. Toronto pop supergroup Girl Pow-R released the song to inspire young fans. The message is clear: stay authentic and resist peer and social media pressures.
Kalista explains, “It’s about never becoming someone you’re not, even when peers or media try to influence you. Young people already struggle with identity. They don’t need the pressure to look like a runway model.”
Inspiration Behind the Song: Personal Experiences and Social Media
The song is inspired by the members’ personal experiences. “Seeing influencers on Instagram with ‘perfect lives’ makes it hard to feel accepted,” Kalista adds.
Krisalyn says, “Our inspiration comes from being forced to act like someone we are not. We stand above it!”
Milana shares, “A friend felt pressured to change herself to fit in. Many people try to make you act differently. But you should never let go of yourself for someone else.”
Diversity and Shared Mission Strengthen the Group
Girl Pow-R members range from 10 to 17 years old. Their diversity in age and background strengthens their group.
Kalista reflects, “We’re growing. Life isn’t just about fun. Everyone faces pressures, but people rarely talk about them.”
Krisalyn adds, “Our lyrics have matured as we’ve matured.” Milana continues, “Social media inspires us. Fans share their stories, which helps us write meaningful lyrics too.”
Achievements and Growing Presence in Music
Since forming in 2017, Girl Pow-R has gained significant experience. They won the 2017 Family Channel singing competition. They were nominated for the Niagara Music Awards’ Best New Group and the Toronto Independent Music Award.
The group performed over 100 shows in two years. They also contributed to the Mysticons theme song. Additionally, they appeared on Fresh 95.3, YTV, TVOKids, CityTV, eTalk Canada, and many teen publications.
